Rhodochrosite
Drawer G-MN0367
Locality:
Sweet Home Mine, Alma, Colorado, USA
Dimensions:
4 x 2.5 x 2cm
This rhodochrosite formed within hydrothermal veins deep beneath the Colorado Rockies, where manganese-rich fluids slowly crystallized into the vibrant pink-red crystals that made the Sweet Home Mine world famous. Widely regarded as one of the finest rhodochrosite localities ever discovered, the mine produced exceptional specimens celebrated for their color, clarity, and sharp crystal form.
The rich coloration comes from manganese within the crystal structure, while the glassy luster and well-defined rhombohedral crystals reflect the stable conditions under which the mineral grew. Many specimens from the Sweet Home Mine formed alongside quartz and sulfide minerals during multiple stages of hydrothermal activity.
Elegant, intensely colored, and highly collectible, this specimen captures the remarkable mineralogy that established the Sweet Home Mine as a legendary American locality.
