Pietersite sphere
Drawer C-MN0389
Locality:
Stone Source: Hopewell Farm 240, Outjo, Kunene Region,Namibia
Dimensions:
6 x 6 x 6cm
Cut from material sourced near Hopewell Farm in Namibia, this pietersite formed through intense geological alteration where embedded fibers of crocidolite became naturally silicified and restructured over time. Unlike the parallel fiber pattern seen in tiger’s eye, pietersite displays chaotic swirling bands created by brecciation and movement within the host rock during formation.
Namibian pietersite is especially prized for its dramatic chatoyancy, or “cat’s eye” effect, where shifting light reveals flashes of gold, blue, bronze, and deep reddish tones across the polished surface. Shaping the material into a sphere enhances this effect, allowing the flowing patterns and reflective fibers to move dynamically from every angle.
Bold, energetic, and visually hypnotic, this specimen showcases the intense natural forces that transformed ancient fibrous minerals into one of the world’s most distinctive ornamental stones.
