Native Copper
Drawer G-MN0381
Locality:
Ray Mine, Scott Mountain, Pinal County, Arizona,USA
Dimensions:
3 x 2 x 7cm
Recovered from the historic Ray Mine of central Arizona, this native copper formed as copper-bearing solutions moved through fractures and open spaces within the surrounding rock. Over time, pure copper precipitated directly from these circulating fluids, creating the twisted, branching, and metallic forms often seen in native copper specimens.
The Ray Mine is part of Arizona’s famous Copper Belt, a region known for producing some of the richest copper deposits in North America. Exposure to changing conditions near the surface allowed native copper to develop alongside a wide variety of colorful secondary minerals that make Arizona localities especially prized among collectors.
Naturally metallic and sculptural in appearance, this specimen reflects the raw elemental beauty of copper preserved in its pure native state.
