Native Antimony
Drawer G-MN0387
Locality:
Kern County, California, USA
Dimensions:
2.5 x 2.5 x 3cm
Occurring in its rare elemental form, this native antimony developed within hydrothermal mineral deposits where antimony-bearing solutions concentrated and crystallized under highly specific geological conditions. Unlike most antimony, which is commonly found combined with sulfur in minerals such as stibnite, native antimony forms only in unusual environments where the element can remain chemically unbound.
Kern County has long been known for its diverse mineralogy and historic mining activity, producing a range of uncommon metallic minerals from complex ore systems throughout the region. Specimens of native antimony are especially valued for their rarity, metallic texture, and distinctive silvery-gray appearance.
Uncommon and geologically fascinating, this specimen preserves antimony in one of its rarest natural forms, highlighting the unique chemistry of California’s mineral-rich terrain.
