Drawer B-MN0037

$50.00 USD

Locality:

Dehesa, Alpine, San Diego Co. Califorina

Dimensions:

4 x 3 x 0.5 cm

This dumortierite formed within pegmatitic veins, where aluminum- and boron-rich fluids allowed the deep blue crystals to grow alongside lustrous muscovite. Under shortwave ultraviolet light, the dumortierite exhibits a subtle fluorescence, highlighting its unique chemical composition. The Dehesa area of San Diego County is known for producing fine specimens of dumortierite associated with mica-rich minerals.

Striking in contrast and texture, this piece reflects both the slow crystallization processes of pegmatites and the distinctive mineralogy of Southern California’s alpine regions.
