Limonite

The Golden Queen Mine is in the Mojave Desert, near the historic mining town of Mojave. Gold was discovered in the area in the late 1800s, and the Golden Queen became one of the region’s better-known gold mines.

The mine has been worked on and off for more than a century, with modern mining operations reopening in the 2010s. Limonite is found in the weathered parts of the deposit and is a nice example of the iron-rich material associated with this historic California gold district.
