Kırka is home to one of the world’s major borate deposits and has been an important source of boron for many decades. The deposit is operated as a large open-pit mine and is one of Turkey’s significant mineral resources.

Kurnakovite is one of the many borate minerals found at Kırka. The locality is particularly interesting because the deposit contains an unusually large variety of borate minerals within the same mining area.
