Handan is part of the Handan-Xingtai skarn district, known for iron deposits and minerals formed where intrusive rocks interacted with limestone. The Fushan Mine near Handan has produced grossular garnet alongside calcite and vesuvianite.

Grossular from this area can form lustrous, orange-brown to reddish crystals. The garnets are a product of the skarn environment, making this combination a good example of how contact between different rock types can create collectible minerals.
