Locality:

Cave-in-Rock District, Hardin County, Illinois, USA

Dimensions:

4.5 x 4 x 4.5cm

Sourced from the legendary Cave-in-Rock mining district of southern Illinois, this fluorite originated within ancient limestone-hosted deposits where fluorine-rich solutions slowly crystallized underground over millions of years. The region became one of America’s most important fluorite-producing areas, celebrated for specimens with vivid color zoning and exceptional transparency.

Although fluorite naturally forms most commonly in cubic crystals, this piece has been shaped and polished into an octahedral form that follows the mineral’s perfect cleavage directions. The process reveals the internal structure of the fluorite, highlighting layers of purple, blue, and golden tones created by trace elements and natural radiation exposure during growth.

Smooth, geometric, and glowing with internal color, this specimen combines the natural beauty of Illinois fluorite with a polished finish that emphasizes its symmetry and depth.
