Fluorite, Microline and Smoky Quartz
Drawer D-MN0356
Locality:
Mt. Fitzroy, El Chaltan, Santacruz Prov., Patagonia, Argentina
Dimensions:
11 x 9.5 x 4.5cm
This mineral association formed within granitic pegmatites and alpine cavities, where silica- and feldspar-rich fluids crystallized under slow-cooling conditions deep within the crust. Smoky quartz developed through natural radiation exposure, while fluorite and microcline crystallized during successive stages of mineral growth. The rugged Mount Fitz Roy region of Patagonia is known for producing dramatic alpine mineral specimens shaped by intense geologic activity.
The contrast of glassy smoky quartz, pale fluorite, and blocky microcline reflects the layered evolution of pegmatitic mineralization, preserving a striking assemblage from the remote mountains of southern Argentina.
