Miami is a historic copper-mining district in central Arizona, with mining beginning in the early 1900s. The district is particularly known for copper and for producing collectible silica minerals associated with the old copper workings.
“Gem silica” is a rare blue-green variety of chalcedony associated with the Miami copper district. The material is known for its color and has been collected from the area for many years.
This specimen is from the John C. White Collection, adding a documented collection history to the piece.
