Calcite from Picher Field comes from the Oklahoma side of the Tri-State mining district. The area was extensively mined for lead and zinc through the mid-20th century and produced a variety of collector minerals. Picher Field calcite is known for its stepped growth, scalenohedral crystals, and occasional yellow to amber coloration. Good older specimens are becoming harder to find since the mines closed.
