Locality:

Montalban, Teruel, Spain

Dimensions:

2.5 x 1.5 x 9.5cm

Formed in ancient evaporite deposits, this selenite developed as sulfate-rich waters slowly evaporated and allowed gypsum crystals to grow within sedimentary layers over long periods of time. The distinct two-tone coloration seen in bicolor specimens is caused by shifting mineral content and changing environmental conditions during crystal formation.

Material from the Teruel region of Spain is especially appreciated for its clarity, satin-like luster, and elegant crystal habit. As the crystal continued to grow, subtle variations in trapped sediments and trace elements created contrasting bands and zones within the selenite, giving each piece its own natural patterning.

Delicate yet visually dramatic, this specimen preserves a layered record of mineral growth shaped by the changing chemistry of ancient evaporative environments.
