The Teresita Mine is part of the La Unión mining district, one of Spain’s important old mining areas. Mining around La Unión dates back to ancient Roman times, with silver and lead making the district particularly important.

The area experienced a major mining boom during the 19th and early 20th centuries, leaving behind a large network of mines, shafts, and tunnels. Baryte is one of the many minerals found in the district, and specimens from Teresita represent the long mining history of southeastern Spain.
