Lavreotiki, in southeastern Greece, is home to the historic Lavrion mining district, where silver, lead, and other metals have been mined since ancient times. The area is known for its wide variety of secondary minerals, formed as groundwater altered the original metal ores. Azurite forms the deep blue portions of this specimen, while malachite develops in shades of green as copper minerals undergo further alteration.
