Amethyst Scepter

Amethyst from the Sannae-myeon area near Gyeongju is especially interesting for its unusual scepter crystals. The amethyst from the nearby Donggok area is known for light-colored crystals and distinctive mushroom-shaped scepters, with some showing irregular or skeletal growth.

This area has a long history of producing Korean amethyst, and the Donggok deposits were once considered one of the country’s major amethyst sources. Many of the older specimens have become difficult to find since the mines closed.
