Amethyst
Drawer C-MN0382
Locality:
Piedra Parada, Tatatila Municipality, Veracruz,Mexico
Dimensions:
3 x 2.5 x 10cm
Hidden within the volcanic landscapes of Veracruz, this amethyst formed as silica-rich solutions slowly crystallized inside gas pockets and fractures within ancient volcanic rock. Trace amounts of iron combined with natural irradiation over time produced the rich purple coloration that gives amethyst its signature appearance.
The Piedra Parada locality is known for yielding deeply colored crystals with strong transparency and well-defined terminations, making material from the region especially attractive to collectors. Variations in temperature and mineral content during growth often created subtle zoning and depth within the quartz.
Vibrant and naturally luminous, this specimen captures the quiet process of crystal formation preserved within Mexico’s volcanic terrain.
