Mauldin Mountain is a classic locality for wavellite, known for its bright green, radiating spheres that resemble tiny sunbursts. The mineral was exposed when local quarries cut into Bigfork Chert for road construction, with some of the best specimens recovered from the Montgomery County Quarry during the 1970s. Wavellite is often found alongside other phosphate minerals, including planerite and variscite.
