Tourmaline
Drawer A-MN0287
Locality:
Rubaya, Bahunde, Masisi Territory, North Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo
Dimensions:
1.5 x .5 x 1.75cm
This tourmaline formed within granitic pegmatites deep beneath the hills of eastern Congo, where slow-cooling magma's created ideal conditions for large, gemmy crystals to grow. In recent years, the Rubaya district has become known among collectors for producing striking multi-colored tourmaline's with sharp, complex terminations.
Recovered from one of Africa’s most mineral-rich regions, this specimen represents both the remarkable crystal-forming power of pegmatites and a locality that continues to yield some of the finest contemporary tourmaline's on the market.
