Spessartine Garnet
Drawer G-MN0370
Locality:
Navegadora Claim, Penha Do Norte, Conselheiro Pena, Mine Gerais, Brazil
Dimensions:
3 x 3 x 1.5cm
This spessartine garnet formed within granitic pegmatites, where manganese-rich fluids crystallized during the final stages of magma cooling deep within the Earth’s crust. The pegmatites of Minas Gerais are world-renowned for producing exceptional gem and mineral specimens, including vividly colored garnets with sharp crystal form and high transparency.
The rich orange to reddish tones of spessartine are caused by manganese within the crystal structure, while the glassy luster and well-developed crystals reflect the slow, stable conditions of pegmatite formation. Specimens from the Navegadora Claim are especially prized for their bright color and aesthetic crystal associations.
Brilliant, geometric, and naturally vibrant, this specimen captures the remarkable mineral diversity that has made Minas Gerais one of the world’s most celebrated mineral-producing regions.
