Hagendorf South is part of the Hagendorf pegmatite district in Bavaria, one of the world’s classic localities for phosphate minerals. The area has produced a very large number of rare and well-studied species from granitic pegmatites.

The locality is well known in mineralogy for its diversity of phosphate species and remains one of the most important pegmatite districts in Europe for research and collecting.
