N’Chwaning Mine in South Africa’s Kalahari Manganese Field is known for its deep red to pink rhodochrosite crystals. Major discoveries in the late 1970s produced sharp, translucent crystals, including unusual fan-shaped and “wheat-sheaf” formations.

Most of the classic specimens came from N’Chwaning, where rhodochrosite was found alongside black manganite. These finds helped establish the mine as one of the world’s premier rhodochrosite localities.
