Nephrite Jade

Jade Cove is a small stretch of coastline on California’s Big Sur coast and is one of the best-known jade collecting areas in the United States.

Nephrite jade occurs in the rocks along the shoreline and has been collected from the area for decades. Much of the material is found in coastal outcrops, cliffs, and boulders that are exposed by erosion and wave action. Jade Cove is also known for its difficult access and rugged coastline, which has become part of its appeal to collectors.
