Locality:

Pestsovye Keivy Mtns., Kola Peninsula, Northern Region, Russia

Dimensions:

4 x 2.5 x 2.5 cm

This staurolite formed under high-pressure metamorphic conditions, where aluminum-rich minerals crystallized into characteristic twinned forms. Known as “fairy crosses,” these natural cruciform shapes occur when two crystals intersect at specific angles during growth. The Keivy Mountains of the Kola Peninsula are a noted locality for well-defined examples of this phenomenon.

Naturally symbolic and geologically distinctive, this specimen reflects the intense conditions of metamorphism while preserving one of nature’s most recognizable crystal habits.
