This malachite formed through the gradual oxidation of copper-rich minerals within one of the world’s most significant copper belts. As groundwater moved through the deposit over long periods of time, dissolved copper redeposited near the surface, slowly building the rich green botryoidal layers and fibrous structures characteristic of malachite.

The Mashamba West Mine, part of the Sicomines Copper-Cobalt Project in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, is known for producing intensely colored secondary copper minerals with exceptional texture and patterning. The vivid green coloration comes directly from the high copper content within the mineral’s structure, while the flowing banding records each stage of growth as conditions shifted during formation.

Naturally sculptural and visually dramatic, this specimen captures the transformation of primary ore into one of the most iconic and recognizable copper minerals in the world.
