Mfouati is a well-known lead-zinc mining area in the Republic of the Congo, with old workings centered around a large limestone hill. The weathered ore zones produced a variety of secondary minerals, including hemimorphite, cerussite, wulfenite, and smithsonite.

The blue botryoidal hemimorphite paired with cerussite is one of the more recognizable combinations from the locality. Cerussite can form sharp, twinned crystals alongside the hemimorphite, making this association particularly interesting for collectors.
