The Potosí Mine is part of the Santa Eulalia mining district, where mining began in the 1700s after silver deposits were discovered. The district eventually developed into an extensive network of underground mines and became one of Chihuahua’s most important mining areas.
Santa Eulalia is particularly famous among collectors for the remarkable variety of minerals recovered from its old workings. Hemimorphite is one of the classic secondary minerals from the Potosí Mine, and specimens from the locality are part of the long collecting history of this famous Mexican district.
