Galena with Ankerite

The Eagle Mine was part of the historic Gilman mining district, which became an important Colorado mining center in the late 1800s. Gilman grew around the rich ore deposits and eventually developed into a company mining town.

The Eagle Mine was worked for lead, zinc, silver, and other metals and was connected to the extensive underground workings around Gilman. The town was later abandoned in the 1970s, leaving the area as a historic mining site.

This specimen also has an interesting collection history, having been part of the A. Parker Collection.
