This dinosaur bone comes from the Morrison Formation, one of the most important dinosaur-bearing rock units in North America. Stretching across much of the western United States, the formation is known for yielding dinosaurs such as Allosaurus, Stegosaurus, Diplodocus, and Apatosaurus. Over millions of years, the original bone was buried by sediment and gradually mineralized, preserving its structure as stone.
