Fluorite
Drawer M-MN0374
Locality:
Fluorite Mine, Valzergues, Villefranche-de-Rouergue, Aveyron, Occitanie, France
Dimensions:
1.5 x 1 x 2cm
Collected from the historic fluorite workings near Valzergues in southern France, this specimen formed as heated underground waters slowly moved through fractures in the surrounding rock. Over long periods of time, these circulating mineral solutions cooled and crystallized into the sharply defined fluorite structures for which the region is known.
Fluorite from Aveyron is often appreciated for its clarity, delicate color zoning, and well-balanced crystal form. Variations in trace elements and natural radiation during growth produced the subtle hues and internal depth visible within the crystals, giving each specimen a distinct character.
Elegant and geometric, this piece reflects the quiet precision of crystal growth preserved within one of France’s classic fluorite localities.
