West Maroon Pass sits in the Elk Mountains of Colorado, along the route between Aspen and Gothic. The area is known for rugged alpine terrain and spectacular exposures of Colorado’s mountain geology.
The nearby mountains have produced well-formed feldspar crystals from pockets in the surrounding rocks. The remote, high-elevation setting makes specimens from this area an interesting representation of the mineral localities around the Maroon Bells and Elk Mountains.
