Elbite

Coronel Murta is located in the Jequitinhonha Valley, one of Brazil’s major pegmatite districts. The region has been mined for decades for tourmaline, beryl, and other gem minerals, with numerous small pegmatite workings throughout the area.

Elbaite is a lithium-rich variety of tourmaline and is one of the better-known gem minerals from the Coronel Murta area. Specimens from this locality are often noted for their color and well-formed crystals.
