This baryte comes from the San Jorge Mine in the historic La Unión mining district of southeastern Spain. The district has been mined since ancient times and is known for its lead, zinc, iron, and silver deposits, as well as a wide variety of collectible minerals.

Baryte is one of the more common minerals found in the area and often occurs alongside sulfide minerals from the district's extensive vein systems. The mines around La Unión have produced some of Spain's best-known mineral specimens and remain an important part of the country's mining history.
