Azurite on Calcite

The Christiana Mine is part of the Lavrion mining district, one of Greece’s oldest mining areas. Lavrion is known for its incredible variety of secondary minerals, and azurite is one of the more recognizable ones from the district.

Here, the deep blue azurite is growing on calcite, creating a nice contrast. Specimens from the old mines around Kamariza are popular with collectors because of the variety of minerals found throughout the district.
