M’Fouati is a historic mining area in the Republic of the Congo, known for its lead and zinc deposits. Mining in the district dates back to the colonial period, with M’Fouati becoming one of the country’s better-known mining centers.

The area has produced a variety of colorful secondary minerals, including azurite, malachite, and cerussite. M’Fouati specimens are particularly interesting because they come from a relatively small and less commonly encountered African locality.
