David Giacomini's Homegrown Crystal Creations

My name is David Giacomini, and I am an artist, scientist, collector, and mineral hunter from Luxembourg, a small country in the heart of Europe.

From the age of 7, I have been fascinated by the process of crystal growth. As a self-proclaimed young scientist, I carried out my first experiments with modest results, but they sparked a passion that has stayed with me. My scientific training and career as a chemistry and biology teacher later deepened my understanding of growth processes. When my professional path shifted, I no longer had the chance to continue, and the pursuit faded into the background for nearly a decade.

Two years ago, after heart surgery temporarily prevented me from mineral hunting, I returned to crystal growing with fresh curiosity. Revisiting my old equipment, I began experimenting again, this time with a different perspective. Rather than focusing on size alone, I started growing crystals on natural mineral specimens that would otherwise be overlooked and forgotten. It took time, patience, and many trials to understand the balance between structure, form, and transformation. Gradually, this approach led to compositions where natural matrices and grown crystals came together as one.

What began as the rediscovery of a childhood hobby has grown into a dedicated artistic practice. While I am not the first to grow crystals, I count myself among the first to approach it as a form of artistic expression. My aim is not to imitate nature, but to honor it by exploring the boundary where science and art meet.

Each work is grown with passion, knowledge, and care, transforming scientific curiosity into unique works of art.
